About Priority Area 11

Priority Area 11 “Security” is coordinated by the Bavarian Ministry of Interior, for Sport and Integration (DE) and the Ministry of Interior of Bulgaria with the involvement of a wide network of key players.

The Security Priority Area (PA11) has four major objectives to follow during its work:

  1. Security offensive – Enhancing police cooperation with the aim of improving security and tackling serious and organised crime in the EUSDR countries
  2. Developing strategic long-term cooperation between law enforcement actors along the Danube river by strengthening networks for cooperation by 2020
  3. Improving the systems of border control, document inspection management and cooperation on consular related issues in the Danube Region
  4. Promoting the rule of law and fight corruption are ongoing activities

This four-fold approach is represented in several initiatives, of which many are already completed while some of them are ongoing activities.

EUSDR

European Union Strategy for the Danube Region

The EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) is a macro-regional strategy adopted by the European Commission in December 2010 and endorsed by the European Council in 2011. The Strategy was jointly developed by the Commission, together with the Danube Region countries and stakeholders, in order to address common challenges together. The Strategy seeks to create synergies and coordination between existing policies and initiatives taking place across the Danube Region.The Strategy includes a wide range of issues addressed by 4 pillars and 12 Priority Areas.
