On 26 of October 2021, SELEC organized an online the Anti-Drug Trafficking Conference with the participation of nearly 60 experts from SELEC Member States, from Danube region countries, as well as representatives of SELEC’s Operational Partners and Observers.
Opening remarks were addressed by Mrs. Snejana Maleeva, Director General of SELEC, Mr. Valentin Niculescu, Director for Operations of SELEC, Mrs. Snezhina Marinova, Director of EU and International Cooperation Directorate within the Ministry of Interior of Bulgaria, Priority Area Coordinator of Priority Area 11 “Security” of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region and Mr. Svetlin Danailov, SELEC Task Force Manager.
The representatives of SELEC highlighted that drug trafficking continues to be a regional challenge, and took the opportunity to express appreciation as regards the relentless efforts of the law enforcement authorities to counter drug trafficking in Southeast Europe. Some of the latest drug trafficking joint investigations conducted under SELEC’s auspices were mentioned.
During the conference the experts presented new trends, modi operandi, investigative methods, successful cases related to drug trafficking conducted with the support of SELEC.
The 2021 Report on Drug Trafficking in Southeast Europe drafted by SELEC based on the contribution of the Member States was presented. The Report provides a comprehensive overview of the drugs situation in Southeast Europe in 2020 and supports the Law Enforcement Authorities in completing their understanding of this multifaceted and ever-evolving threat.
The conference was organized in the framework of a the DTP-PAC11-PA11 project providing financial support to the Coordinators of Priority Area 11 “Security“ of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR).
