The DARIF on-line study

An important aspect within PA 11 work is the long-standing cooperation on establishing a network of contact and coordination centers along the Danube. As a follow-up to a strategic project called DARIF /2013 – 2015/, led by the Ministry of Interior of Hungary, EUSDR countries had participated in 9 annually joint operations

The 9th successful DARIF Joint Operation took place on 13, 14 and 15th of September 2022. It was cancelled in two consecutive years due to COVID 19. (in 2020 and 2021) The aim was to improve safety and security for the Danube river. It was carried out as a complex multi-purpose joint river operation as a way of continuing good practices. The Operation was organised by the Ministry of Interior of Hungary, according to member states demands, their own risk assessment, current situation on the national Danube sections and reinforcement sources, at the end of the peak season in Danube River traffic. A total of 10 countries participated in the operation as well as guest officers from Europol, SELEC and FRONTEX

After the operation, as an additional added value tool, an on-line anonymous survey was developed /a questionnaire prepared in 9 different languages to encourage respondents to participate/ which gathered together the responses of 201 law-enforcement officers from the 10 Danube Member States (Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine). This is the first such international survey on the opinion of the staff of control authorities on risks related to improvements of border control. The results and the text of the study are available at the following link:
